Free Vintage Pattern : Little Jumping Lambs!

A gift from me to you! This vintage embroidery pattern is a personal favorite... I love the little lambs jumping! The dots on their wool look especially fetching done in a series of french knots.

Collaboration with NudeeDudee

Last August I blogged a simple tutorial about embroidery on black fabric, including some photos of the project I was working on at the time. The project was a collaboration with Kim of NudeeDudee, who creates the MOST amazing reproduction vintage clothing. Check out the super-amazing overalls and matching top in this photo (modeled by one of her repeat clients):

I embroidered several fabric panels for Kim using a vintage "Mexicana" embroidery pattern which was full of big, bold flowers and leaves. Kim used these panels to create an absolutely stunning vintage style dress:

A handkerchief for your bride...

I just finished and posted my favorite handkerchief yet -- a pretty lace bridal handkerchief with nesting love birds in grey.

I've actually done three handkerchiefs in the past year with this same design, but always used blue for the birds. I decided to use grey this time because I wanted the birds to look like mourning doves.

Mourning doves are a very well-known species because of their unique cooing, which sounds like someone crying, as well as their popularity as a game bird. My favorite story about these birds is that they mate for life; once they select a mate, that's it. They are a common symbol of love and faithfulness, so I think they are a particularly good choice for wedding items!

I actually have a tattoo of a mourning dove on my left arm-- I guess you could say I'm a fan!

Vintage patterns...

I love vintage embroidery patterns, and I always scoop them up when I find them at local flea markets or thrift stores. Unfortunately, this happens rarely! My cousin gave me quite a few that belonged to her grandmother, now in her 90s, who was a professional seamstress and drapery maker. Some of them are duplicates, and some I know I will never use, so I'm sharing some on Etsy.

I also found some amazing transfers from a great Etsy seller in England... I've been scanning, tracing, and using a lot of these lately. They were giveaways in craft magazines in the 50s, and I just LOVE them. She has a few left, actually.
